2月15日（木）4時間目に、中学1年では英語レシテーション（暗誦）コンテストの決勝を行いました。
コンテストは一般生の部と帰国生の部の2部構成で行われました。

一般生の部ではマララ・ユスフザイさんの国連演説、もしくは映画「ズートピア」での主人公ジュディ・ホップスの演説のどちらかを選択して、スピーチを行います。
帰国生の部ではシェイクスピアの『All the World’s a Stage』を暗唱します。

練習を重ね、予選を突破してきた一般生20名、帰国生4名のファイナリストたちは堂々たるスピーチを披露しました。
時には身振りを交えた迫力のスピーチに、一般生・帰国生・来場の保護者・学年団教員・ネイティブの教員もみな圧倒されていました。

この日、一般生が暗唱したマララさんの国連演説と「ズートピア」でのジュディの演説を掲載いたします。

Our words can change the whole world because we are all together, united for the cause of education. And if we want to achieve our goal, then let us empower ourselves with the weapon of knowledge, and let us shield ourselves with unity and togetherness.
Dear brothers and sisters, we must not forget that millions of people are suffering from poverty, injustice, and ignorance. We must not forget that millions of children are out of their schools. We must not forget that our sisters and brothers are waiting for a bright, peaceful future.
So let us wage… So let us wage a global struggle against illiteracy, poverty and terrorism. Let us pick up… Let us pick up our books and our pens. They are our most powerful weapons. One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world. Education is the only solution. Education First.

Judy’s Speech from Zootopia
When I was a kid, I thought Zootopia was this perfect place where everyone got along and anyone could be anything. Turns out, real life is a little bit more complicated than a slogan on a bumper sticker. Real life is messy.
We all have limitations. We all make mistakes. Which means – hey, glass half full! – we all have a lot in common. And the more we try to understand one another, the more exceptional each of us will be. But we have to try.
So no matter what type of animal you are, from the biggest elephant to our first fox, I implore you: Try. Try to make the world a better place. Look inside yourself and recognize that change starts with you. It starts with me. It starts with all of us.

私が小さかったころ、ズートピアは、みんなが仲良くて誰もが何にだってなれる完璧な場所だと思っていました。蓋を開けてみると、現実の生活はバンパースティッカーのスローガンよりちょっと込み入っています。現実の生活は複雑です。
